Needlepoint Group

The Needlepoint Group gathers weekly to hand-stitch beautiful and intricate cushions, rugs, and kneelers that are specifically reflective of the rich liturgical life found at the Church of the Redeemer.

The group is comprised of both men and women who, in addition to the weekly meetings (held Thursdays from 10 am to 2 pm; bring your own lunch), spend a good deal of time working on various needlepoint items needed for the Church in their free time at home.

Needlepoint is labor-intensive – it takes about one hour to stitch just one square inch of needlepoint!  The work of needlepoint requires both artistry and technical skill -- and most of all – patience.

Redeemer needle pointers don’t just create new items.  They are busy all year ‘round examining existing needlepoint in the Church to check for damaged areas that need to be mended or repaired.

Sharing the fellowship of creating Redeemer needlepoint is a labor of love that strengthens the deep spiritual convictions and bonds among the stitchers – a sharing that then extends out to the parish family as the needlepoint items take their place in the Church.

New members, whether experienced or not, are warmly welcomed.  Look for updates about the Needlepoint Group in the monthly parish newsletter, The Pelican, and occasionally in the Sunday Announcements.  You may also contact the Parish Office at 941.955.4263 and ask to be put in touch with a Needlepoint Group member.
